Daniel Afriyie Leaves FC Zürich: Contract Terminated By Mutual Consent
Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie has parted ways with Swiss Super League side FC Zürich after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The announcement was made by the club, bringing an end to Afriyie's two-and-a-half-year stint in Switzerland.
Afriyie joined FC Zürich in January 2023, with high expectations following his impressive performances in Ghana. He signed a contract that was supposed to keep him at the club until June 2026. However, things didn't quite pan out as planned for the 24-year-old.
In a statement, FC Zürich acknowledged Afriyie's departure, stating: “FC Zürich announces that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city-based club. His contract has been terminated by mutual consent.”
During his time with FC Zürich, Afriyie made 50 competitive appearances for the first team, managing to score two goals and provide four assists. While his contributions were appreciated, they weren't enough to secure a long-term future with the club.
“FC Zürich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future!” the club added in their statement.
Afriyie's Impressive Past
Prior to his move to Europe, Daniel Afriyie enjoyed a successful career with Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak. He captained the side and led them to five major trophies, including the Ghana Premier League, two FA Cups, one Super Cup, and the President’s Cup. He also scored 13 goals and provided 4 assists in 69 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and CAF club competitions.
Before Hearts of Oak, Afriyie also played for Burkinabe club Rahimo FC, where he won the domestic league title in the 2018-19 season.
Ghana U-20 Success
Afriyie also boasts an impressive record with the Ghana U-20 national team. He captained the Black Satellites to victory in both the WAFU U-20 Zone B tournament and the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament hosted by Mauritania in 2021.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Daniel Afriyie, but with his talent and experience, he is sure to find a new club soon.
