Red Wings to Honor Sergei Fedorov: #91 Jersey Retirement Announced!

Detroit Red Wings fans, mark your calendars! The team has officially announced that they will retire Sergei Fedorov's No. 91 jersey on January 12, 2026, at Little Caesars Arena. The ceremony will take place before the game against the Carolina Hurricanes as part of the franchise's centennial celebration. This is a long-awaited and well-deserved honor for one of the Red Wings' all-time greats.

Fedorov's Legendary Career

Sergei Fedorov, a key member of the Red Wings' Stanley Cup-winning teams in 1997, 1998, and 2002, was known for his exceptional two-way play. He spent 13 seasons with the Red Wings, earning two Frank J. Selke Trophies, the Hart Memorial Trophy, and the Ted Lindsay Award in 1993-94. Fedorov was also named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2016.

Fedorov expressed his gratitude for the honor, saying, "I’m extremely grateful for this tremendous honor. Thank you to everyone with the Red Wings organization, especially those who helped bring me to Detroit and gave me the chance to play for such a historic franchise. I was fortunate to be part of some unforgettable teams, and above all, I’m proud of the three Stanley Cup championships we won for our amazing fans in Hockeytown."

Red Wings owner and CEO Chris Ilitch also shared his thoughts: "We are honored to celebrate Sergei Fedorov and raise his #91 to its rightful place hanging in the rafters at Little Caesars Arena, among the all-time greats who have worn the Winged Wheel."
