Yankees Fans Go WILD for Napping George Costanza Bobblehead!
Costanza Craze: Yankees Fans Line Up For Hours!
New York Yankees fans showed their dedication extends beyond the game itself, lining up hours before Thursday night's game against the Boston Red Sox. The draw? Not just the rivalry, but a limited-edition George Costanza bobblehead.
Inspired by the classic Seinfeld episode "The Nap," the bobblehead depicts George Costanza, played by Jason Alexander, asleep under his desk at Yankee Stadium. In the episode, George, then assistant to the traveling secretary, created a custom sleep nook. The Yankees celebrated "Seinfeld Night" by giving away the bobblehead to the first 18,000 fans.
The demand was so high, doors opened two hours early. Pre-sales on eBay reached as high as $400 in July. Even after fans received their bobbleheads, listings popped up with prices ranging from $150 to $250.
A Cultural Phenomenon
Yankees SVP/Marketing Debbie Tymon noted the enduring appeal of Seinfeld and the natural fit of the Yankees within the show's cultural impact. "It’s just fascinating that the whole cultural phenomenon of Seinfeld has had such longevity," she said. This is the second Costanza bobblehead, with the first debuting in 2024.
Tickets for the Yankees-Red Sox game were selling for around $69, while tickets for Friday's game were available for $35. The Costanza bobblehead clearly drove up demand and early attendance.
More Than Just a Game
This event shows the power of nostalgia and pop culture, blending sports and entertainment. The Yankees have successfully tapped into the Seinfeld fanbase, creating a unique and memorable experience for fans.
