The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a significant roster move as they gear up for a crucial series against the Cincinnati Reds. Utility player Kiké Hernandez has been activated from the 10-day injured list, providing a boost to the team's versatility and experience.

To make room for Hernandez, the Dodgers designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment. Kennedy, who was picked up on waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on August 15th, struggled to make an impact during his brief stint with the team. In seven games and 17 at-bats, he managed just one hit and one RBI.

Manager Dave Roberts has expressed excitement about Hernandez's return, suggesting that he could see playing time not only at his usual positions but also in left field. "I think we’ll see him in left field," Roberts said. "As guys come back, there’s going to be opportunities... we definitely need production."

Hernandez had been sidelined with left elbow inflammation since July 7th. During his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, he showed promise, batting .357 with three RBIs and a .938 OPS in five games. The Dodgers are hoping that this positive momentum will carry over to the major league level.

This season, Hernandez has played in 72 MLB games, batting just below .200 in 169 at-bats. Roberts has indicated that Hernandez will be in the lineup for the next two games against the Reds, giving him an immediate opportunity to contribute.

The Pressure is On

The Dodgers are in a tight race in the NL West, with the San Diego Padres close behind. Every win is crucial, and the team is looking for Hernandez to provide a spark both offensively and defensively.

What's Next for Kennedy?

Buddy Kennedy's future with the Dodgers is uncertain. He could be claimed off waivers by another team, traded, or assigned to the minor leagues. He had previously played for the Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies this season.
