A tragic shooting near Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis has left one man dead and six others injured. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of 29th Street East and Clinton Avenue, in the Phillips neighborhood.

Details of the Shooting

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the shooting is a “deeply troubling act of violence.” A witness shared a video with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, stating he heard at least fifteen gunshots. Police reported the shooting occurred just before 1:30 p.m.

The witness described seeing someone standing outside their car, shooting at a crowd with a large gun. Gunfire can be heard in the video, with people seen fleeing the scene.

Victims and Injuries

Law enforcement found a man dead at the scene from apparent gunshot wounds. Another man was found with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. Four other injured men and one injured woman were found on Lake Street, about one or two blocks away from the initial shooting. They were transported to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Eyewitness Accounts

One woman described the scene as a “blood shower,” indicating the severity of the violence. She reported seeing one person running one way and another person running in a different direction, both having been shot.

Suspect and Firepower

Initial reports suggest a suspect exited a vehicle and fired approximately 30 rounds from a “high-velocity” .223 caliber rifle at a group of people on the sidewalk along Clinton Avenue. The suspect then fled the scene in a car.

Targeted Violence

Chief O’Hara indicated that at least one of the seven people shot was “clearly targeted.” The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and identify the suspect.
