Ohtani SMASHES Dodgers Record! 120 MPH Home Run Stuns Pirates!
Los Angeles Dodgers sensation Shohei Ohtani etched his name further into baseball history Tuesday night at PNC Park, launching a monstrous home run against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The solo shot, which sailed over the right-field wall, registered an astounding 120 miles per hour off the bat.
Hardest Hit in Dodgers History
This incredible blast marks the hardest-hit ball in Dodgers history during the Statcast era (since 2015), placing it among the most powerful home runs ever recorded in Major League Baseball. Only five other home runs in the Statcast era have been hit with greater force. The current record holder is Pirates' own Oneil Cruz, who achieved a staggering 122.9 mph earlier this season.
Adding to the impressiveness of Ohtani's feat, the home run was hit off a blistering 99.2 mph fastball thrown by Bubba Chandler. According to MLB's David Adler, this is the hardest-hit home run off a pitch traveling at least 99 mph in the Statcast era, surpassing the previous record held by New York Yankees star Aaron Judge.
Ohtani's Milestone and Season Performance
The home run was Ohtani's 46th of the season, positioning him near the top of the league leaderboard alongside players like Kyle Schwarber and Cal Raleigh. It also signified his 100th career home run with the Dodgers, a remarkable achievement considering he's still in his second season with the team. Last season alone, Ohtani hit 54 home runs.
Ohtani, serving as the designated hitter on Tuesday, continues his recovery to full strength on the mound following multiple surgeries. He recently pitched five innings in the Dodgers' 5-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on August 27th, his longest outing since joining the team. He is scheduled to make his next start in the Dodgers' upcoming game against the Pirates on Wednesday night. This is one player to watch!
