Wild Weather! Lightning Storms & Wind Damage Hit Northern California
Northern California was hit by a dramatic combination of weather events on Tuesday. Viewers of KCRA 3 captured stunning videos and photos of intense lightning storms that swept across the region, while powerful winds caused damage and power outages in parts of Sacramento County.
Lightning Strikes Spark Concerns
The thunderstorms, which moved through the area early Tuesday morning, brought frequent lightning strikes that are suspected of igniting fires. Authorities are on high alert, monitoring for potential wildfires caused by the dry lightning.
Viewer Photos Capture the Intensity
KCRA 3 viewers shared their incredible snapshots of the lightning show. Richard Withers sent in a photo from Campo in San Joaquin County, while Joyce Rennison captured a striking image from Placer County as the sun rose. Cindy shared a photo of the lightning in Folsom. Elizabeth Cheryl captured photos of lightning in El Dorado Hills and a viewer captured video of lightning in Davis.
Wind Damage and Power Outages
In addition to the lightning storms, a powerful wind event impacted Sacramento County, knocking out power to thousands of residents. Crews are working to restore electricity, but the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Meteorologist Kelly Curran warns that more thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and small hail are possible in the Sierra and Foothills through Thursday. Residents are advised to stay informed and take precautions.
