Arizona Under Alert! Severe Storms & Dust Storms Slam the State!
Arizona is bracing for a double whammy of severe weather today, September 2, 2025, with both Severe Thunderstorm and Dust Storm Watches in effect. Arizona Weather Force has issued the alerts, urging residents to stay informed and prepared.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Two Key Zones
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch covers two distinct areas. The first stretches from Flagstaff to Bullhead City and Kingman. Forecasters predict severe thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and move westward, driven by a strong mid-level flow and a high-pressure ridge in Utah. These storms are expected to track along I-40, bringing damaging winds, hail, and flooding to much of southern Mohave County.
The second zone is in Southern Arizona, encompassing much of Pima County and the Gila Bend areas of Maricopa County. This region will see rapidly developing severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and flooding throughout the afternoon and evening.
Major Dust Storm Incoming!
Adding to the weather woes, a Dust Storm Watch is also in effect. The explosive development of thunderstorms in Southern Arizona is expected to generate powerful downburst winds. These winds will spread northwest and northward, carrying dust across the region.
Tucson, north of the watch area, will likely be the first to experience the dust, followed by Pinal County and then all of Maricopa County later this evening. Forecasters are anticipating a major dust storm, not just typical blowing dust.
More Storms on Wednesday!
The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue into Wednesday, with widespread thunderstorms across much of Arizona, including Tucson, Phoenix, Pinal County, Prescott, and Kingman. Residents are urged to stay tuned to Arizona Weather Force for updates throughout the week, as more severe weather is possible.
