Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will miss the first six games of the 2025 NFL season after being suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The suspension stems from his involvement in a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas, Texas, in March 2024.

Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail as a condition of his probation. Dallas police reported that Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at over 119 mph before the crash.

The NFL conducted its own internal investigation and handed down the six-game suspension, which Rice will not appeal. This means he will be ineligible to play until Week 7 when the Chiefs face the Las Vegas Raiders on October 19th. He will miss the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil, a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles, and games against the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions.

Rice issued a statement through his attorney, Royce West, taking “full responsibility” for the incident and apologizing for the harm caused to innocent drivers and their families. According to Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot, Rice has paid restitution to all of the victims for “out-of-pocket medical expenses.”

The Chiefs have not made Rice or coach Andy Reid available for comment following the announcement of the suspension.

Key Games Rice Will Miss:

  • Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Chargers (Brazil)
  • Week 2 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
  • Week 3 at New York Giants
  • Week 4 vs. Baltimore Ravens
  • Week 5 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Week 6 vs. Detroit Lions

What's Next for the Chiefs?

With Rice sidelined, the Chiefs will need to rely on other receivers to step up. It remains to be seen how this suspension will impact their offense as they aim to defend their Super Bowl title.
