Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected from Thursday's season opener against the Dallas Cowboys before even playing a snap. The shocking incident occurred during an injury timeout after the opening kickoff, when Carter spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

The disqualification for unsportsmanlike conduct overshadowed the Eagles' eventual 24-20 victory at Lincoln Financial Field. Replays clearly showed Carter and Prescott face-to-face before Carter spat on the veteran quarterback while Eagles special teams player Ben VanSumeren was being attended to for an injury.

"You know it was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won't happen again," Carter told reporters after the game. "I feel bad for just my teammates and the fans out there. You know, I'm doing it for them. I'm doing it for my family also but the fans, they show the most love. You heard them out there and not being able to start the game to finish the game just f---- me up, but it won't happen again."

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has stated that any internal discussions with Carter and potential team disciplinary actions will remain private.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that the NFL will review the spitting incident for possible additional discipline, a standard procedure for acts that lead to disqualification. Historically, spitting incidents have generally resulted in fines rather than suspensions.

"If I get that text or that call and have that conversation, we will handle it," Carter said, regarding potential NFL discipline.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion and criticism, raising questions about Carter's behavior and the potential consequences he may face from both the team and the league.
