LSU's Whit Weeks: Stopping Florida's DJ Lagway is Key to Victory!
LSU's defense has roared to life this season, dominating opponents in the first two games. A key component of this resurgence is linebacker Whit Weeks, whose speed and energy have been instrumental. Weeks, a preseason All-American, now benefits from a stronger supporting cast, creating an elite defensive unit.
This Saturday night, Weeks and LSU face their first SEC challenge against Florida in Death Valley. The Gators boast a formidable weapon in quarterback DJ Lagway, a former five-star recruit aiming to bounce back after a shaky Week 2 performance.
"He’s hard to get on the ground," Weeks acknowledged. "So whenever we get back there, we have to wrap up and bring him down because he’s a big dude. And he can sling it, he can throw the ball all over the field. In my opinion, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country, so we’re going to have to get after him."
Lagway's stats speak for themselves: 38 completions out of 51 attempts for 342 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in just two games this year. His freshman year provided valuable experience, with 12 touchdowns, 1,915 yards, and a tough lesson in SEC football.
Florida’s offense isn't just Lagway, though. Running back Jadan Baugh and a talented receiving corps including Eugene Wilson, Vernell Brown, and J.Michael Sturdivant offer multiple threats.
"I think they’re talented," Weeks stated. "They’ve got receivers, their offensive line is huge and fast. It’s going to be a battle for sure. We know what happened to them last week, so they’re going to come into this game ten times more hungry. We know the opponent we’re about to face."
LSU vs. Florida: A Clash of Titans
The LSU-Florida matchup promises to be a hard-fought contest. Both teams are hungry for a win, and the game will likely hinge on LSU's ability to contain Lagway and Florida's explosive offense. Whit Weeks and the LSU defense will be put to the test.
