Facebook Settlement Checks Are Here! Did You Get Yours?
Payments from the $725 million Facebook privacy settlement are finally being distributed. This follows a lengthy wait for those who filed claims seeking compensation for the alleged misuse of their personal data.
What's This Settlement About?
Meta, Facebook's parent company, agreed to this massive settlement to resolve a lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that Facebook allowed Cambridge Analytica, a firm linked to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, to access the personal information of millions of Facebook users. This raised serious concerns about data privacy and how user information is handled by social media giants.
When Can You Expect Your Payment?
Angeion, the company responsible for managing the settlement distribution, has confirmed that payments began in September 2025 and will continue for approximately 10 weeks. If your claim was approved, you should receive an email notification 3-4 days before your payment is issued.
Didn't Get a Notification Yet?
Don't panic! The settlement administrator is sending out notices and payments to eligible class members in weekly batches. So, you might still receive yours in the coming weeks.
Who Was Eligible?
Anyone in the United States who had a Facebook account between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, was eligible to file a claim. The deadline to submit a claim was in August 2023.
If you filed a claim and haven't received any updates, it's recommended to check the settlement website for more information. This settlement highlights the importance of data privacy and the ongoing efforts to hold social media companies accountable for how they manage user information.
