John Cena's Shocking Announcement: WWE Legend Reveals Retirement Plans!
John Cena, the WWE superstar and actor, recently made a heartfelt return to Western Massachusetts during “Monday Night Raw” at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. While setting up his upcoming match against Brock Lesnar, Cena took the opportunity to acknowledge his deep ties to the region and the foundation it laid for his successful career.
Cena's Springfield Roots: More Than Just Wrestling
Cena reminded fans, especially the younger ones, of his time playing football at Springfield College. "Some of these young fans may not know this, but I spent a whole lot of years playing football up the street over at Springfield College," he stated during his in-ring promo. While he's known for his record 17 world championships in WWE, many fans were sporting No. 54, Cena’s football number for the Springfield College Spirit.
He humorously explained that his offensive lineman role, involving “getting his butt kicked and coming back the next day to do it again,” wasn't glamorous but proved invaluable. Cena credited Springfield College for preparing him for the demanding life in WWE.
Retirement on the Horizon: Cena's Final Appearances
This particular “Monday Night Raw” held special significance as it marked the first time the show had taken place in Springfield. More importantly, it highlighted one of the final appearances of Cena's in-ring career. After an impressive 23 years in WWE, Cena revealed his plans to retire at the end of 2025.
Cena stated that he only has six more appearances scheduled. These include his highly anticipated match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza and his final show in Boston on Monday, November 10th. The WWE universe is eagerly anticipating these remaining appearances to celebrate the legendary career of John Cena.
In other Raw news, after Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed defeated LA Knight and Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso attempted a rescue, only to be met with a BFT from LA Knight. Also, CM Punk and AJ Lee had a confrontational face-to-face with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, adding more fuel to the fire of Wrestlepalooza.
