NHL Star's Fiancée Saved! Heart Transplant After Vacation Horror
NHL Star Rasmus Dahlin Shares Fiancée's Heart-Stopping Ordeal
Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin has revealed the harrowing experience his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, endured this summer while vacationing in France. In a heartfelt letter released to the hockey community, Dahlin detailed how Carolina suffered sudden and severe heart failure, requiring life-saving CPR and ultimately a heart transplant.
According to Dahlin, Carolina initially felt unwell for a few days before her condition rapidly deteriorated. "While on vacation in France early this summer, Carolina began to feel sick for a few days, which quickly turned into her experiencing major heart failure," Dahlin wrote. "Fortunately, she received CPR on multiple occasions, and up to a couple of hours at a time to keep her alive, which ultimately saved her life." He emphasized the critical importance of CPR in saving her life, stating the outcome would have been unimaginable without it.
Weeks on Life Support and a Life-Saving Transplant
Carolina was then transferred to a hospital where she remained on life support for weeks. Eventually, she received a heart transplant in France. Dahlin expressed immense gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for Carolina, including those at the Hospital Centre of Antibes Juan– Les– Pins, Hôpitaux Universitaires de Marseille, the Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg and the Hogsbo Rehabilitation Center. He also thanked the NHLPA and the NHL for their support during this challenging period.
Dahlin also extended his appreciation to Terry and Kim Pegula, along with the entire Pegula family, Kevyn Adams, Lindy Ruff, and the Sabres organization, for their unwavering support.
Road to Recovery and CPR Awareness
Carolina is now recovering in Sweden and is expected to make a full recovery. Dahlin praised her resilience and determination throughout the ordeal. He also highlighted the importance of CPR training and awareness, hoping to shed light on the life-saving potential of this skill. While requesting privacy for Carolina's ongoing recovery, Dahlin wanted to share their story to acknowledge those who helped and to promote awareness of the crucial role CPR plays in saving lives.
Dahlin, entering his eighth season in the NHL and second as Sabres captain, has been on the ice for the start of training camp. Carolina has been actively involved in Dahlin's foundation, which focuses on improving the lives of children in the Buffalo community.
