Dodgers' Secret Weapon? Rortvedt Steps Up Amid Injury Crisis!
Rortvedt's Unexpected Rise with the Dodgers
Ben Rortvedt didn't foresee October in Southern California with the Dodgers. He envisioned a postseason push with the Rays, but the July 31st trade deadline changed everything. Now, he's catching his breath after a whirlwind three weeks, and the next month could be even more intense.
"This year is kind of like a rollercoaster of events," Rortvedt said. "I was really excited going into the season with the Rays with a good group of guys, but it ended up not going the way that I had hoped."
He added, "But I get another chance here. As hard as it was to go through what I went through, I think it was all for a reason. It was a good reset. I have an opportunity here and I’m trying to do my part and contribute."
Opportunity Knocks: Rortvedt's September Surge
Rortvedt has started more games than any other Dodger catcher in September, a direct result of Will Smith's hand injury (a hairline fracture) and Dalton Rushing's shin injury. Manager Dave Roberts shared that Smith's return during the regular season is doubtful, but they remain hopeful for his availability in the postseason. This makes Rortvedt the next man up.
Dodgers' Pitching Dominance
Since September 4th, the Dodgers' starting rotation boasts a stellar 1.43 ERA, ranking second in Major League Baseball. Their 11.9 strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate leads MLB during this period. In those 17 games, the Dodgers have showcased one of baseball's best pitching staffs. Remarkably, Rortvedt has been behind the plate for 14 of those games.
With the pressure on, Rortvedt is proving his worth and contributing significantly to the Dodgers' success. Will he continue to shine and help lead the team through the postseason?
