New Cavaliers guard Lonzo Ball is already making headlines, and not just for his on-court potential. During the team's media day, Ball revealed a surprising geographical oversight that has the internet buzzing. When asked about his initial impressions of Cleveland, Ball admitted, "I like Cleveland. I keep joking with the guys, I didn’t even know Cleveland had water."

Lonzo's Lake Erie Admission Goes Viral

The comment quickly went viral, with many expressing disbelief that Ball was unaware of Cleveland's location on the southern shore of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. Ball, a California native who has played for the Lakers, Pelicans, and Bulls, seemed genuinely surprised by the reaction.

During a subsequent interview, Ball addressed the viral moment with a laugh, saying, "I did not know. I’ve been here to play the last eight years now so that’s on me. Whenever I come here it’s white though, it’s like snowing every time."

Ball Focused on the Future with the Cavs

Despite the geographical gaffe, Ball expressed optimism about his new team and city. "Been nice getting out of the house," Ball said. "The weather has been good. I know that won’t last too much longer. Food’s been good. People have been great. I have no complaints."

Beyond settling into a new city, Ball is focused on returning to full strength and contributing to the Cavaliers' success. He hasn't played back-to-back games since the 2020-21 season with the Chicago Bulls due to multiple knee surgeries. However, Ball indicated he may be able to play in both ends of back-to-back sets this season, although he hasn't discussed it with the team's medical staff yet.

Strus Update

Fellow Cavalier Max Strus also provided an update on his recovery from an offseason Jones fracture. He's five weeks removed from surgery and walking without a boot, but still months away from returning to the court. He declined to provide a specific timetable for his return.

The Cavaliers are looking to build on their strong 2024-25 season, and Lonzo Ball's health and integration into the team will be key to their success. Hopefully, he learns the local geography soon too!
