The Liberty University Men’s Division I Hockey team continued their winning streak, sweeping the University of Delaware in a thrilling weekend series. The Flames defeated the Blue Hens 7-1 on Friday night and 5-3 on Saturday, extending their undefeated record to 6-0.

Flames Ignite Early

The series, held at the LaHaye Ice Center, saw Delaware attempting to break Liberty’s momentum in the first Midnight Mayhem game of the season. However, the Flames proved too strong, showcasing impressive offensive prowess right from the start.

Freshman forward Seth Wall set the tone early, scoring just three minutes into the first period with assists from freshman forward Seth Huygen and junior defenseman Luke Anderson. Senior forward Ryan Finch quickly followed up with another goal, assisted by senior forward Aidan Carney, pushing the Flames to a 2-0 lead. Senior forward Michael DeBrito added a third goal unassisted, capping off an explosive first five minutes for Liberty.

"Those first three goals are huge," Coach Kirk Handy said. "There’s a lot of momentum and energy that’s gained from those quick goals that we scored there."

Physical Play and Penalties

As the game progressed, tensions rose, leading to several penalties. Liberty freshman defenseman Michael Fischer and Delaware freshman defenseman Thomas Weekes both found themselves in the penalty box for roughing. The physical play added another layer of intensity to the already competitive matchup.

Undefeated Streak Continues

Ultimately, Liberty's strong offense and solid defense proved too much for Delaware. The Flames secured a decisive victory, maintaining their undefeated record and solidifying their position as a top contender. Fans can look forward to more exciting hockey action as the season progresses.
