Bruins Roster Moves: Key Players Assigned to Providence

The Boston Bruins are finalizing their roster as the regular season approaches, announcing several player transactions on October 3, 2025. With only one preseason game remaining, General Manager Don Sweeney has made decisions impacting both promising prospects and seasoned veterans.

Five players, including Patrick Brown, Michael Callahan, Georgii Merkulov, Victor Soderstrom, and Riley Tufte, have been placed on waivers with the intention of assigning them to the Providence Bruins. This means other NHL teams have the opportunity to claim these players. If unclaimed, they will report to Providence.

Additionally, Frederic Brunet, Riley Duran, Brett Harrison, and Fabian Lysell will directly report to the Providence Bruins training camp. Notably, these four players do not need to clear waivers before joining the AHL ranks.

Lysell and Merkulov: Missed Opportunities?

The assignments of Fabian Lysell, a former first-round pick, and Georgii Merkulov, Providence's leading scorer for the past three seasons, are particularly noteworthy. Both offensive-minded forwards had an opportunity to impress the Bruins coaching staff during training camp but failed to secure a permanent spot on the NHL roster.

Coach Marco Sturm emphasized the importance of these players not being discouraged by the move to Providence. He stressed that strong performance in the AHL will be recognized and could lead to future opportunities in Boston.

Looking Ahead

The Bruins will conclude their preseason schedule with a game against the New York Rangers. Meanwhile, the Providence Bruins are gearing up for their regular season, which begins on October 12th. These roster moves signal the final stages of preparation for both teams as they embark on the 2025-2026 season.
