The Green Bay Packers have added depth to their defensive line by signing defensive tackle Cameron Young. The transaction was officially announced on Tuesday by Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Young, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 304 pounds, is entering his third year in the NFL. He was initially drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. During his time with the Seahawks, Young participated in 17 games, starting in one. He accumulated 18 tackles (10 solo), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, and defended one pass. His career with the Seahawks was unfortunately hampered by a knee injury that limited his playtime in the 2024 season. The Seahawks released him prior to the 2025 NFL Draft.

Before entering the NFL, Young played college football at Mississippi State University, where he started in 25 of his 42 games played. He recorded 107 tackles (35 solo), nine tackles for a loss, and two sacks over five seasons (2018-2022). During his senior year in 2022, he started all 13 games for the Bulldogs.

What to Expect From Young

Young described himself as a physical player who excels at establishing the line of scrimmage and stopping the run. He will wear jersey number 78 for the Packers.

Filling the Void

The Packers' signing of Young comes after the departure of run-stopping defensive tackle T.J. Slaton in free agency. Although the team drafted Warren Brinson in the sixth round and signed Nazir Stackhouse, Young will have an opportunity to compete for a role in filling the void left by Slaton.

Former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll praised Young’s physicality and toughness after he was drafted, highlighting his ability to play “really tough football.” With his blend of size and athleticism, Young hopes to make an impact on the Packers' defensive line.
