Mike Pompeo Joins Bill Barr's Torridon Law Group in Washington D.C.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has joined Torridon Law Group, a Washington D.C. law firm founded by former Attorney General Bill Barr. This marks a significant addition to the firm, which already boasts a roster of prominent Republican figures.
Pompeo, who also served as CIA Director during the Trump administration and as a U.S. Representative for four terms, will serve as 'of counsel' at Torridon. Barr established the firm in late 2022, naming it after a region in the Scottish Highlands he frequents.
Torridon's team includes other notable figures such as Pat Cipollone (former White House counsel under Trump), Fried Fielding (White House counsel under Presidents Reagan and George W. Bush), and Patrick Philbin (a deputy counsel under Trump). Recently, Mike Fragoso, former chief counsel to Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, joined as a partner, and Dan Brouillette, Trump's former energy secretary, joined the strategic advisory arm.
The firm's clientele includes Rupert Murdoch's Dow Jones & Co., handling an artificial intelligence suit. They also represent two Columbia University custodians who allege they were assaulted during campus protests related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Torridon also successfully defended Fox News personality Jessica Tarlov against defamation claims.
Notably, Ted Ullyot, a co-founder of Torridon and former Facebook general counsel, departed the firm in May to become chief legal officer for the National Football League. This move highlights the dynamic nature of the legal landscape and the continuous evolution of prominent law firms.
Pompeo's Background and Experience
Mike Pompeo's career spans decades in both the public and private sectors. Before his time in the Trump administration, he led two manufacturing businesses in Wichita, Kansas, including Thayer Aerospace. He graduated first in his class from West Point and served as a cavalry officer before attending Harvard Law School.
Impact on Torridon Law Group
Pompeo's addition is expected to bolster Torridon's strategic advisory capabilities and attract further high-profile clients. His extensive experience in international relations and national security positions the firm for significant growth in the coming years.
