WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita community is in deep mourning following the tragic deaths of Britton Eichbauer, a beloved middle school teacher, his son Arlo, and his nephew Silas. The fatal accident occurred Wednesday night on Highway 400 east of Leon, near mile marker 315, as the Eichbauers were returning from Florida.
According to investigators, a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the westbound Toyota Tacoma in which the Eichbauers were riding. Britton was 46 years old, Arlo was 19 years old, and Silas was only 16 years old.
Friends and former students are sharing heartfelt memories of the Eichbauers. Sean Hynes, a close friend of Silas, expressed his disbelief and sorrow, saying, "Just feels different that he's not here anymore." He and Silas had been friends since the third grade.
Another friend, Noah Graves, described the tragedy as "almost like not real" and recalled countless cherished memories made with Silas. He emphasized Silas's unwavering supportiveness: "He was like, just always the friend that was just always there."
