Flash Flood Warning Issued for Northeast Ohio: What You Need to Know
Northeast Ohio is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flash Flood Warning as of today, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Residents in several counties should be prepared for heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 4 p.m. for the following areas:
- Southwestern Portage County
- Southeastern Medina County
- Northwestern Stark County
- Southern Summit County
- Northeastern Wayne County
The NWS reported a severe thunderstorm located over Doylestown, moving east at 30 mph. This storm could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors and stay away from windows.
Flash Flood Warning
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for the northern portion of Ashtabula County until 5 p.m. Doppler radar indicates thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the area, with 1 to 2.5 inches of rain already fallen. An additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rainfall is possible, leading to ongoing or imminent flash flooding.
Locations that may experience flash flooding include Ashtabula, Conneaut, North Kingsville, Kingsville, and Edgewood. The NWS warns that flash flooding is possible in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying areas.
Weather Impact Alert
The 3News Weather Team has declared a Weather Impact Alert for later this evening as more storms approach. Senior Meteorologist Matt Wintz reports that a line of storms will arrive after 7 p.m., potentially packing damaging winds and heavy rain, especially in western counties. Tri-State Area Flood Potential
The US National Weather Service is also reporting that showers and thunderstorms are possible today along a stalled boundary near the Tri-State Area. Ample moisture could lead to heavy rain and possible flash flooding, particularly between noon and 8 PM. Residents in the Tri-State Area should monitor weather forecasts and be prepared for potential flooding.
