Netflix's highly anticipated fantasy series, The Sandman, is back for its second season, promising more of the moody goth hero, Morpheus, also known as Dream (played by Tom Sturridge). But is it more of the same emo drama?

What to Expect in Season 2

Season two, part one, sees Dream attempting to grow and atone for his past misdeeds. The official summary states that Dream must face impossible decisions as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the fallout of his past. To make amends, Dream confronts longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. The path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.

In the initial episodes, Dream must rescue his beloved queen Nada (Deborah Oyelade) from her unfortunate 10-millennia stint in Hades. This requires negotiating with Lucifer herself (Gwendoline Christie), depicted as a weary soul tired of tormenting. Dream then hosts a gathering of netherworld figures in his dimly lit dream castle before attempting to reconcile with alienated family members.

Release Schedule

Netflix is releasing The Sandman Season 2 in three parts. The first six episodes were released on Thursday, July 3rd, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT. Five more episodes will be released on Thursday, July 24th, and the series finale will be available to stream on Thursday, July 31st.

Is it worth watching?

While the first season garnered mixed reviews, with some criticizing its slow pace and overly serious tone, others praised its faithful adaptation of Neil Gaiman's beloved comic book series. Season 2 aims to delve deeper into Dream's character and explore the consequences of his actions, promising a thrilling conclusion to his story arc.

If you enjoy dark fantasy with complex characters and intricate world-building, The Sandman Season 2 might be worth checking out. Just be prepared for a hefty dose of emo angst.
