Crypto Meets Golf! DP World Tour Scores Big with Nexo Partnership
The DP World Tour has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Nexo, a Swiss-based crypto lender, marking the first time a major global golf tour has entered into a multi-year deal with a digital assets company. This 'historic convergence of crypto and golf' will see the Scottish Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire renamed the Nexo Championship.
Nexo Championship: A New Era for Golf
The Nexo Championship, scheduled for August 7-10, is part of a three-year partnership agreement. While organizers haven't disclosed the exact value, they confirmed it's an eight-figure sum, indicating a minimum investment of $10 million (£7.3m). This substantial commitment underscores the growing interest in integrating cryptocurrency with mainstream sports.
Beyond the Scottish Championship
Nexo's involvement extends beyond the Scottish Championship. The company will also become an official partner for five other events on the DP World Tour this year, including the Genesis Scottish Open in East Lothian, the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, the BMW PGA Championship, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Nexo's Return to the US Market
This partnership follows Nexo's recent announcement in April about re-entering the US market after a two-year absence due to regulatory hurdles. Co-founder Antoni Trenchev credited a more favorable environment, particularly under the Trump administration, for facilitating their return.
The deal represents a significant step for both the DP World Tour and the crypto industry, showcasing the potential for collaboration and innovation in the world of sports and finance.
