General Hospital Shocker: Maxie Jones Recast! Is Kirsten Storms Leaving?
Longtime General Hospital fans were surprised on July 3rd when Nicole Paggi stepped into the role of Maxie Jones, a character Kirsten Storms has portrayed for the past 20 years. But is this a permanent change? Here's what we know.
Why the Recast?
According to a spokesperson for General Hospital, the recast is temporary. Kirsten Storms experienced a scheduling conflict, leading to Nicole Paggi filling in. Paggi is no stranger to Port Charles, having previously covered for Storms in December 2023. She's also known for her roles in shows like 9-1-1, The Rookie: Feds, and 90210.
Storms' History with General Hospital
Storms celebrated her 20th anniversary on General Hospital on May 23rd. This isn't the first time she's been temporarily replaced. Jen Lilley (formerly of Days of Our Lives) filled in from 2011-2012, and Molly Burnett (also from Days) took over in 2016 and 2018. Interestingly, Storms herself is a recast, having taken over the role from Robyn Richards in 2005.
Storms' Reaction to the Recast
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Storms admitted she was initially "taken aback" by the recast. She previously reflected on joining the show, stating, "I knew I was going to just do it very differently than the actress before...I thought fans would be a little bit upset about it initially, sure, but I thought if I do my best, I can win that group over."
What's Next for Maxie Jones?
For now, fans can expect to see Nicole Paggi in the role of Maxie Jones. However, the show has confirmed that Kirsten Storms will return once her scheduling conflict is resolved. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story!
