Tennis Star's Health Scare: Jarry's Fight For Wimbledon Glory!
Nicolás Jarry, the Chilean tennis star and former world No. 16, is facing more than just tough opponents at Wimbledon. He's battling a persistent health condition, vestibular neuritis, that has significantly impacted his career and daily life. This condition caused a drop in his rankings and poor results in 2025.
Navigating Health Challenges
Jarry's journey back to the top hasn't been easy. He missed a significant portion of last season and is currently ranked No. 144. However, he emphasizes that his current ranking doesn't reflect his abilities. He secured a spot in the Wimbledon main draw by coming through qualifying at Roehampton without dropping a set.
In an interview with RG Media and CLAY, Jarry revealed new vision-related difficulties linked to vestibular neuritis. "I’m realising now that the inflammation has really affected how my eyes function. I still get dizzy easily, but the impact on my vision is something new," he explained.
Seeking Expert Help
After Wimbledon, Jarry plans to consult with an ocular vestibular specialist to assess the extent of the damage and explore ways to improve his vision. He understands the interconnectedness of the vestibular system, vision, perception, and balance, and is actively working on his recovery.
- Hearing slowly improving.
- Vision affected by inflammation.
- Working on visual side and eye movement.
Mental Fortitude
Jarry acknowledges the mental challenges of dealing with his health issues. "I’ve had to work hard on accepting what this has meant for both my tennis and personal life," he said. Despite the adversity, his motivation remains high, fueled by the belief in his abilities and a fresh start after a difficult period.
His motivation is sky-high, really. After everything that happened last year, it feels like I’m starting fresh. I’m full of energy and focused on doing what I feel is right for me — not what others tell me to do. I’m driven by the belief in what I can still achieve if I truly back myself. Trusting in my abilities is what I need most right now.
At Wimbledon, Jarry will face eighth seed Holger Rune in the opening round. He's determined to overcome the challenges and showcase his talent on the prestigious stage.
