Wimbledon 2025: Rybakina vs. Tauson - A David vs. Goliath Match?

The 2025 Wimbledon Championships are heating up, and one match in particular has caught the eye: Elena Rybakina vs. Clara Tauson. Rybakina, the second favorite to win the entire tournament with odds of +350 (behind only Aryna Sabalenka), is heavily favored in her third-round match against Tauson.

Rybakina's track record at Wimbledon is impressive. She secured her only Grand Slam victory at the 2022 Wimbledon, defeating Ons Jabeur. She followed that up with a quarterfinal appearance in 2023 and a semifinal appearance in 2024. Her path to another deep run seems open after several top seeds were eliminated early.

Tauson, on the other hand, is making her deepest Wimbledon run. While she's appeared in the first round in 2021, 2022, and 2024, this is the furthest she's advanced. She reached the fourth round at last year's French Open. Tauson defeated Heather Watson in three sets in the first round and followed that up with a straight-set victory against Anna Kalinskaya in the second round.

The Odds Don't Lie, But Upsets Happen

DraftKings Sportsbook has Rybakina as a significant favorite at -475, giving her an implied probability of 82.71% to win. Tauson is the underdog at +330. However, Wimbledon has seen its share of upsets this year, so Tauson could surprise. The match is scheduled for Saturday, July 5th at 6:00 a.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN.

In other Wimbledon news, British hope Jonathan Draper suffered an early exit for the second straight year. Draper struggled to impose his game, ultimately falling short against a savvy grass-court player. Marin Čilić, after knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024, celebrated an amazing win.

Other notable players advancing include Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Alex de Minaur, Mirra Andreeva, Iga Świątek, and Emma Navarro. Ben Shelton's Wimbledon match was suspended due to darkness.
