Nigeria's Super Falcons are set to kick off their Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 campaign with a highly anticipated match against Tunisia. The Group B opener, taking place at the Larbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca, marks only the second time these two teams have met in the tournament's history. Their previous encounter in WAFCON 2008 ended in a goalless draw.
Nigeria's coach, Justin Madugu, expressed confidence in his team's preparation, stating, "We dey prepare veri well and di girls dey respond positively ...we dey good to go!" On the other side, Tunisia's head coach, Kamel Saada, acknowledged Nigeria's strength but expressed optimism about his team's chances. "Nigeria get good players and Tunisia get good team even though dem no dey experienced. but we fit start well against Nigeria. Nigeria na favourite but as far say we [Tunisia] qualify we fit get sometin out."
Nigeria boasts an impressive record in WAFCON history, having played 61 matches, winning 45, and scoring 176 goals, averaging 2.89 goals per game. Their opening match record includes eight wins, two draws, and two losses in 12 games.
