Yankees' Bellinger Reveals Heartwarming Fan Moment Before Homer!
New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger shared a touching story behind his recent home run against the Oakland Athletics. In a dominant 12-5 victory, Bellinger connected for his eleventh homer of the season, contributing to the Yankees' offensive explosion. However, it wasn't just the home run itself that made headlines, but the special moment that preceded it.
The Yankees, currently leading the AL East with a 48-35 record, are feeling the heat from the Tampa Bay Rays, who are only 1.5 games behind. After a recent offensive slump, the team seems to have rediscovered its rhythm just in time for the All-Star break. Sunday's game was a testament to their resurgence, highlighted by four home runs, including two from MVP candidate Aaron Judge.
A Fist Bump That Led to a Homer
Before stepping into the batter's box against left-hander Hogan Harris, Bellinger, 29, had a heartwarming interaction with a mother and her son at Yankee Stadium. As he explained in an interview with MLB.com's Jared Greenspan, the encounter gave him chills.
"I was warming up, and the mom says, ‘Hey Cody, big fan, last time you gave him a fist bump you hit a homer.’ And I turn around, and I look, and I just saw these two people there. I was like, ‘Oh, that was really cool.’ So I turn around and I give another fist bump. Obviously, I had to go show him some love. Honestly, that was a pretty cool moment. It was just a really, really cool moment."
This wholesome interaction clearly resonated with Bellinger, who channeled the positive energy into a powerful home run, further solidifying the Yankees' lead and creating a memorable experience for both the player and his young fan.
