Longtime ESPN Radio personality Don La Greca is realizing a lifelong dream: becoming the play-by-play announcer for the New Jersey Devils on MSG Networks. After spending two decades covering the New York Rangers on the radio, La Greca is crossing the Hudson to take over from Bill Spaulding in the Devils' booth, alongside veteran analyst Ken Daneyko.

“It’s a dream come true,” La Greca told The Post. He added that being the voice for the team that ignited his passion for hockey is something he always aspired to do. La Greca, a New Jersey native, emphasized the significance of representing his home state and a team he grew up following.

A Lifelong Fan's Passion

La Greca's connection to the Devils dates back to his youth, even owning a signed table marking from a Devils fan club dinner with broadcasters Gary Thorne, Chris Moore, and Peter McNab. Thorne even wrote him good luck in broadcasting, a moment that foreshadowed his future.

The 57-year-old also plans to continue co-hosting his ESPN Radio show with Alan Hahn and Peter Rosenberg, although he will be negotiating a new contract with the station. Balancing both radio and television duties presents a new challenge, as La Greca has primarily worked in radio throughout his career.

Teamwork in the Broadcast Booth

La Greca emphasizes the importance of collaboration in a successful broadcast. He aims to emulate legendary announcers like Doc Emrick, who brought out the best in his colleagues. He intends to ensure that everyone on the broadcast team has the opportunity to shine.

MSG's New Setup

The 2024-25 season will feature other changes to the Devils' MSG broadcasts. Former Devils captain Bryce Salvador is expected to have a larger role, and Rachel Herzog has replaced Erika Wachter.

While welcoming La Greca, many Devils fans are also expressing their appreciation for Bill Spaulding, who brought a unique voice and perspective to the broadcasts. His dedication to providing fair and insightful commentary resonated with viewers.

The Devils community showed their appreciation for Spaulding’s contribution after his departure was announced.
