Sarah Jessica Parker, star of "And Just Like That...", is pushing back against critics who tell her to "shut up and act" when she voices her political opinions. In a recent appearance on MSNBC's "The Best People" podcast with Nicolle Wallace, Parker addressed those who attempt to silence her left-leaning views.

Parker emphasized her right to speak out as a citizen in a democracy. "They seem to want everyone who disagrees to shut up," she stated. "It’s the weirdest thing — but not their side. It’s so off-kilter, like who can talk and who can’t? Who’s told to shut up and who isn’t? I’m just a citizen," she continued.

The actress has been vocal in the past about her opposition to policies she disagrees with, particularly those impacting Social Security and public library funding. She also defended her choice to use her platform to advocate for causes she believes in. Parker also addressed criticism from the left, saying she will speak to the degree she feels comfortable.

Furthermore, Parker explained why she often avoids discussing politics on social media. "I often don’t talk on social media because I don’t think it’s a place that’s deserving of any real complicated conversation. I’m not interested in quick little snippets when it’s dealing with conflict or even elections sometimes," she said.

Parker's Perspective on Political Discourse

Parker believes that political discourse often loses nuance on social media platforms. She highlighted that "FDR was elected without social media," emphasizing that meaningful change and political engagement can occur outside of the online sphere. She prefers to engage in thoughtful discussions and avoid contributing to what she sees as a distracting and often misunderstood online environment.

Finding the Right Platform

Parker emphasized the importance of being well-informed before speaking out on complex issues. She aims to be helpful and avoid unintentionally harming causes that matter to her. Her approach reflects a desire for considered dialogue over quick, reactive posts.

  • She prefers offline discussions for complex political topics.
  • She believes nuance is often lost in social media debates.
  • She focuses on being well-informed before sharing her views.
