Former 'Dancing With the Stars' host Tom Bergeron is revealing his true feelings about the show's iconic Mirrorball Trophy. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bergeron confessed, "I used to make fun of that trophy all the time." He expressed disbelief that the dancers were pouring their hearts and souls into winning such a glittering prize.

However, Bergeron's perspective has shifted since season 32 of 'DWTS,' when the trophy was renamed The Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy in honor of the show's beloved judge, who passed away in April 2023. "But now it's got Len's name on it, so that's kind of sweet," Bergeron acknowledged.

Bergeron's Unexpected 'DWTS' Departure

Bergeron's tenure on 'DWTS' came to an end in 2020 after 28 seasons. His departure stemmed from a disagreement over casting choices. Bergeron stated he was assured the show wouldn't feature political figures, but the appearance of former press secretary Sean Spicer on season 28 proved otherwise. "I was blissfully unaware of the booking process until the end," he told ET.

Despite the circumstances of his exit, Bergeron remains grateful for his time on the show. "… it was a real unexpected gift of my career," he said. When asked what he misses most, he initially quipped, "a paycheck," before adding more sincerely, "the camaraderie, I think."

'Dancing With Sharks': Bergeron's New Venture

Bergeron is diving into a new aquatic adventure as the host of Discovery Channel's 'Dancing With Sharks,' premiering on July 20th as part of Shark Week. This unique competition features expert divers showcasing their moves underwater, partnered with actual sharks. Bergeron describes the dancing as surprisingly impressive, drawing comparisons to 'DWTS.'
