My Chemical Romance's "Demonic" Stunt?! Fans Threaten Ticket Sales!
My Chemical Romance (MCR) recently kicked off their 2025 North American stadium tour in Seattle with a theatrical performance that has sparked both excitement and controversy. While some fans were thrilled by the band's artistic choices, others were taken aback, even threatening to sell their tickets.
The Onstage "Experiment"
During the Seattle show at T-Mobile Park, lead singer Gerard Way introduced what he called an "experiment," framed as a "practice of democracy." The audience received signs marked "yea" and "nay," and were asked to vote on whether masked "candidates" standing in a central circle should remain in office. The performance culminated in a simulated execution, with the actors collapsing in a puff of smoke as individuals in militant gear looked on. Way then thanked the crowd for "participating in democracy."
Fan Reaction: Divided and Vocal
The band's political commentary and theatrical stunt divided fans. Some online expressed discomfort, with one Facebook user describing it as "weird demonic shit!" Others felt the band had become too "woke," prompting them to consider selling their tickets. However, MCR also delivered a historic performance, playing their longest show ever.
A Night of Music and Theatrics
The Seattle show was not only about political statements. MCR performed their landmark album, The Black Parade, in its entirety, sporting updated versions of their signature marching band uniforms. They even reworked some songs with new arrangements, including a new "dagger" outro for "Mama."
A Second Set of Hits
Following The Black Parade performance, the band moved to a smaller B-stage and played a second set of hits and fan favorites, including "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," "The Ghost of You," and "Helena." They also included tracks from Danger Days and their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.
The My Chemical Romance tour continues with different openers at each date, including Garbage, Alice Cooper, Pixies, and Evanescence. The tour is scheduled to conclude on September 13 in Tampa.
