Trump Targets Kimmel After Colbert's Show Cancellation: Late Night Wars Heat Up!
The late-night TV landscape is in turmoil! Following the shocking news of Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' cancellation in 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump has set his sights on another late-night host: Jimmy Kimmel.
Trump's Truth Social Attack on Kimmel
Trump, known for his outspoken criticism, took to Truth Social to declare that Kimmel is the "next to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes." He didn't hold back, claiming Kimmel has "absolutely NO TALENT" and predicting the demise of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' He also threw Jimmy Fallon into the mix, suggesting his time is limited as well.
"These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!" Trump wrote.
Kimmel's Sharp-Witted Rebuttal
Kimmel, never one to back down from a fight, responded with a biting Instagram post. He shared a screenshot of Trump's Truth Social rant, adding the caption: "I’m hearing you’re next. Or maybe it’s just another wonderful secret."
The jab is a clear reference to a Wall Street Journal report detailing a letter allegedly written by Trump to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. The letter, reportedly adorned with a drawing of a naked woman, ended with the phrase, "Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret." Trump has vehemently denied writing the letter, calling it false.
Late Night Solidarity... or a Battle Royale?
The cancellation of Colbert's show, initially met with shock and accusations of political maneuvering, has now sparked a wider debate about the future of late-night television. With Trump seemingly targeting hosts he deems critical of him, the pressure is on for those remaining in the industry. Will other hosts rally around Kimmel, or will this become a full-blown late-night battle royale? Only time will tell.
