UNM Campus on Lockdown! Deadly Shooting: Suspect Still at Large!
A fatal shooting at the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque has prompted a campus-wide shelter-in-place order. According to the UNM Police Department (UNMPD), the incident occurred early Friday morning at the Casas del Rio student housing complex.
Officers responded to reports of gunshots and discovered two individuals who had been shot. Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large, and authorities believe they may still be on campus.
Campus Closure and Safety Precautions
In light of the ongoing situation, UNM has closed its central Albuquerque campus as a precautionary measure. Students and staff are urged to shelter in place and avoid the campus area until further notice. However, the Health Sciences Center, including all clinical components, remains open.
The UNMPD is advising individuals at UNM to closely monitor their university email, text messages, and the LoboGuardian app for real-time updates and instructions.
