Cincinnati CEO Flees Downtown: Crime & Chaos Force Company Out!
A Cincinnati CEO is relocating his logistics company, One Logistics Network, out of downtown, citing escalating safety concerns and a perceived 'failure in leadership' from city officials. Victor Louis, the founder and CEO, stated that his employees no longer feel safe working in the area after nearly a decade at their current location on Seventh Street in the Queensgate neighborhood.
Growing Concerns Over Safety and Disorder
Louis, a Cincinnati native, expressed disappointment over the changing environment in the downtown area. He recounted witnessing numerous violent incidents, disorderly conduct, and even disturbing public acts. One particularly unsettling incident involved an individual defecating in front of his employees, highlighting the extent of the issues.
"I've seen individuals carrying weapons... We've seen just disorderly conduct, where people are yelling and screaming right outside our window," Louis told WCPO 9 News. He added that a violent fight on July 26, which garnered national attention, served as a catalyst for his decision.
Moving to Blue Ash for Growth and Safety
One Logistics Network, which employs 35 people, will be moving to Blue Ash, Ohio, in the coming weeks. Louis cited Blue Ash's proactive engagement and business-friendly environment as key factors in his decision. He contrasted this with a perceived lack of responsiveness from Cincinnati city leaders.
"They called, they bugged me. They wanted us to be there, and that's what sold me on it," Louis said, referring to Blue Ash officials. He also mentioned sending a letter to Cincinnati city leaders outlining his concerns, but received no response, except for a call from mayoral candidate Corey Bowman.
Beyond Crime: Other Contributing Factors
While crime was a major concern, Louis also pointed to other issues plaguing the downtown area, including homelessness, drug abuse, and inadequate road maintenance. He expressed frustration that the city seemed unable to address even these manageable problems.
Louis stated that his decision to relocate is final, even if city leaders were to reach out now. He is focused on growing his business and believes that Blue Ash offers a more conducive environment for achieving his goals.
The departure of One Logistics Network highlights the challenges facing downtown Cincinnati and raises questions about the city's ability to create a safe and thriving business environment.
