True Enhances 5G Performance with Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS)

True Corporation, a leading Thai telecommunications provider, has launched a significant 5G network upgrade using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology. This innovative approach promises to enhance both 5G and 4G performance across Thailand.

The initial rollout is focused on Bangkok's Thonglor district, with plans for nationwide expansion. This launch signifies a commitment to delivering high-performance mobile services through smarter spectrum management.

What is Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS)?

DSS allows True to dynamically allocate spectrum between 5G and 4G based on real-time user demand. Unlike traditional fixed spectrum allocation, where a portion of the spectrum is dedicated to either 4G or 5G, DSS can adjust allocation dynamically. This leads to:

  • Increased Efficiency: Spectrum is used more effectively, reducing waste.
  • Optimized Performance: Both 4G and 5G networks can perform at their best, regardless of fluctuating demand.
  • Flexibility: The network can adapt to changing user needs, ensuring a seamless experience.

For example, if 5G demand spikes in a particular area, DSS can shift the entire 2.6 GHz band to 5G. Conversely, if 4G usage increases later, DSS will reallocate the spectrum accordingly. This ensures optimal performance for both technologies.

Nationwide Expansion and Future Plans

True's DSS deployment is part of a broader Network Modernization Plan. Backed by new 2.3 GHz assets, the company intends to improve speed, coverage, and service stability for its TrueMove H and dtac customers. As of Q1 2025, True served over 14.2 million 5G users in Thailand, and this upgrade aims to further enhance their experience.

This move represents a significant step forward in optimizing network resources and delivering superior mobile connectivity to users across Thailand.
