Jerry Jones' Secret Battle: Cancer Diagnosis Revealed! You Won't Believe It!
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has revealed a private battle he fought for over a decade: stage 4 melanoma. The revelation comes in a new Netflix documentary series, "America's Team: The Gamble and His Cowboys," set to premiere next Tuesday. Jones disclosed that he underwent cancer treatment "about a dozen years ago," but details were scarce until recently.
The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that Jones was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in 2010 and underwent a decade-long fight. He credits a groundbreaking treatment and dedicated medical professionals for his recovery.
"I was saved by a fabulous treatment and great doctors and a real miracle [drug] called PD-1 [therapy]," Jones told the Dallas Morning News. "I went into trials for that PD-1 and it has been one of the great medicines. I now have no tumors."
PD-1 therapy targets the PD-1 protein on immune cells, effectively releasing the brakes on the immune system and allowing it to attack cancer cells. While highly effective, this type of therapy can also cause significant side effects as the immune system may also attack healthy cells.
Jones' stage 4 diagnosis meant the melanoma had spread to other parts of his body, necessitating four surgeries on his lungs and lymph nodes. His openness about his battle with cancer is expected to bring awareness to melanoma and the advancements in treatment options available today. It also offers a new perspective on the resilience and determination of the iconic Cowboys owner.
Micah Parsons Contract Dispute Continues
Away from his personal health revelations, Jerry Jones is also currently navigating a contract dispute with star linebacker Micah Parsons. The back-and-forth between Jones and Parsons has been ongoing, with USA TODAY Sports' Chris Bumbaca providing insights into the complexities of the negotiations. How this situation will resolve remains to be seen, but it’s a key issue for the Cowboys franchise.
