Tigers Shake Up Bullpen! Horn Recalled, Gipson-Long Optioned!
Detroit Tigers Adjust Pitching Staff Ahead of Twins Series
The Detroit Tigers are making strategic moves to bolster their bullpen as they face the Minnesota Twins. With a focus on combating left-handed hitters, the Tigers have recalled left-handed reliever Bailey Horn from Triple-A Toledo. This decision comes as Sawyer Gipson-Long is optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
Manager A.J. Hinch emphasized the importance of having a fresh arm and utilizing the pitching staff effectively. "Series by series, sometimes game by game, we're going to use our guys the best way we can and expand this pitching staff," Hinch stated. "Maybe not always comfortable for the last guy in the bullpen, but it does help you win series, and strategically, it's good to always have a fresh arm when you can."
Bailey Horn's Performance and Matchup Advantage
Bailey Horn has shown promise in Triple-A Toledo, posting a 3.06 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 35⅓ innings. He also pitched briefly for the Tigers earlier this season, recording a 3.38 ERA in three games. Horn's effectiveness against left-handed hitters is a key factor in his recall. Lefties have struggled against him, hitting just .189 with a .577 OPS.
The Twins roster features a significant number of left-handed hitters, making Horn a valuable asset in this series. Hinch acknowledged that the Twins could counter with right-handed hitters, but praised Horn's velocity and fearlessness.
