Petrol Price Relief! Slight Drop for Petrol, Big Savings for Diesel in SA!
Good news for South African drivers! The latest data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) indicates a welcome decrease in fuel prices, particularly for diesel users. The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is expected to announce the official fuel price adjustments for September, taking effect this Wednesday.
Petrol Price Drop - A Small Win
While petrol prices are only seeing a modest reduction, it's still a step in the right direction. Expect a decrease of between 4 and 12 cents per litre for petrol. Here's the breakdown:
- Petrol 93: Decrease of 12 cents per litre
- Petrol 95: Decrease of 4 cents per litre
Diesel Drivers Rejoice!
The real winners are diesel drivers, who can look forward to a more substantial price cut. Both wholesale grades of diesel will see a decrease of 55 cents per litre.
- Diesel 0.05% (wholesale): Decrease of 55 cents per litre
- Diesel 0.005% (wholesale): Decrease of 55 cents per litre
Illuminating Paraffin Relief
Users of illuminating paraffin will also benefit from a price reduction of 37 cents per litre.
Rand's Resilience Plays a Key Role
The South African rand has shown surprising strength against the US dollar. What initially contributed to an under-recovery at the start of the month shifted to an over-recovery by month's end. This resilience, even amidst economic challenges like the recent 30% tariff imposed on South African exports to the United States, has played a significant role in the fuel price adjustments.
This fuel price decrease offers some respite amidst the ongoing economic pressures faced by South Africans.
