Red Roses Rumble! England Face Scotland in Women's Rugby World Cup Quarterfinals!
The Women's Rugby World Cup is heating up! England, after a hard-fought 47-7 victory over Australia, are set to clash with Scotland in the quarterfinals. The match, scheduled for next Sunday in Bristol, promises to be a thrilling encounter.
England Clinch Top Spot, But at a Cost
England's victory against Australia wasn't without its challenges. Despite equalling their own world record of 30 consecutive Test victories, the Red Roses faced a determined Wallaroos side that initially took the lead. Australia, coached by former England captain Joanne Yapp, put up a strong fight, showcasing their skill and intensity.
However, the victory came at a price. Star full-back Ellie Kildunne is set to miss the quarter-final clash against Scotland after suffering a head injury during the match against Australia. Kildunne, the 2024 World Player of the Year, was forced off early in the second half following a whiplash incident. Additionally, loosehead prop Hannah Botterman departed in the first half due to a back spasm.
Mitchell's Assessment
Head coach John Mitchell acknowledged the challenges his team faced. Regarding Kildunne's injury, he stated, "Ellie will go through return-to-play protocols. There is normally a 12-day stand-down. She is fine. She'll be frustrated because she had a difficult day at the office. She'll get better." He also addressed Botterman's condition, saying, "Han's got a muscle spasm, so that will take its course."
Quarterfinal Matchups Set
With England securing their place, the quarterfinal matchups are now set. Australia, despite their loss to England, have also advanced and will face Canada in another exciting quarterfinal clash, also taking place in Bristol.
