Donnarumma: Man City My 'Only Option'! Will He Upset His Napoli-Loving Mom?
Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed that Manchester City was his “only option” this summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. The Italian goalkeeper, who joined City for a reported £26 million, says he feels like he's been at the club for years and is already forming strong bonds with his new teammates.
Why City?
Donnarumma stated that he knew of City's interest before the summer and that the relationship strengthened after the Club World Cup. He also mentioned that Pep Guardiola was pushing for his arrival. "My only choice was to come here... so I am happy to be here at City and be part of this fantastic team," he said.
Impressive Debut
The 26-year-old impressed in his Premier League debut, keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over Manchester United. He also highlighted his relationship with Erling Haaland, praising him as both a fantastic player and a person.
"I have got an incredible relationship with him, he immediately welcomed me. It feels like I have been here for many years, the way they welcomed me," Donnarumma explained.
Guardiola's Influence
Donnarumma believes that Pep Guardiola will help him improve his ball-playing skills. He acknowledged that there are moments to play short and moments to kick it long. "I always try to improve and I am with a coach who is the best in these situations – he will help me and we can do lots together,” he said.
Family Loyalties Tested
With Man City facing Napoli in the Champions League, Donnarumma joked about not bringing his mother to the Etihad Stadium. He revealed that his family members are big supporters of Napoli, adding an interesting layer to the upcoming match.
Will Donnarumma help City secure a victory against Napoli, even if it means upsetting his family? Only time will tell!
