F1 Races in Baku 'til 2030! Ja, nee, they're staying!
Formula One fans, get ready for more Baku action! The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is sticking around until at least 2030. This means we'll be seeing those cars tear through the streets of Baku for another four years.
Why Baku?
The Baku City Circuit is a proper challenge. It's got tight corners where drivers need mad skills, and long straights where they can put the pedal to the metal. Plus, the scenery is lekker – the track winds through the old town, right by the Caspian Sea. It's a vibe!
The race first hit the F1 calendar in 2016 as the European Grand Prix, then became the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017. Since then, it's been a fan favourite, drawing crowds from over 70 countries and pulling in massive TV audiences.
Who's Won Before?
Baku's a bit of a lucky dip when it comes to winners. Seven different drivers have taken the top spot in eight races. Sergio Pérez from Mexico is the only one to win twice. Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri have each grabbed a win too. Remember Oscar Piastri's epic victory last year? What a race!
Stefano Domenicali, the big boss at F1, is stoked about the extension. He reckons Baku brings the gees, and the race always delivers the goods. So, buckle up, South Africa. We've got more Baku brilliance coming our way!
