Proteas Women Clinch ODI Series vs Pakistan! Brits Smashes Century!
Tazmin Brits played a blinder, smashing an unbeaten 171, as the Proteas Women secured a series-winning victory against Pakistan in the second ODI at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The match, played on Friday, saw South Africa post a formidable 292-3 before restricting Pakistan to 287 in 44.4 overs, sealing the three-match series 2-0.
Brits' magnificent innings, a career-best, came off just 141 balls and included a staggering 20 fours and four sixes. She formed a record-breaking opening partnership of 260 with captain Laura Wolvaardt, who contributed a classy 100 off 129 balls. This is Brits' sixth ODI century and second in consecutive matches, following her unbeaten 101 in the first match.
Pakistan mounted a spirited chase, needing a revised target of 313 (DLS) due to rain. Sidra Amin shone with a brilliant 122 off 110 balls, supported by Natalia Pervaiz's 73 off 60. However, crucial wickets from Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk swung the momentum back in South Africa's favour.
Marizanne Kapp, as always, led the bowling attack effectively, while de Klerk recovered from an expensive start to claim vital wickets. Rain interrupted the Proteas' innings at 238-0 after 41 overs, leading to a reduction to 46 overs. However, Brits remained unfazed, continuing her onslaught to guide South Africa to a commanding total.
