The upcoming Arouca vs. FC Porto clash is generating buzz, not just for the football, but for a whirlwind of controversies. Scheduled for Monday at 20h00, as part of the seventh matchday of the I Liga, the game is expected to be packed. However, around 700 tickets remain available at €30 each, exclusively sold in Arouca.

Clash Over Re-Scheduling

The match was initially scheduled for Sunday, coinciding with the Feira das Colheitas (Harvest Fair). This led to a request for rescheduling by the municipality and the Public Security Police due to security concerns. FC Porto vehemently disagreed, arguing the new date violates competition regulations, specifically the rule preventing rescheduling within 30 hours of a UEFA competition match.

FC Porto faces Estrela Vermelha in the Europa League just three days after the Arouca game, intensifying their frustration. The LPFP (Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional) insists the rescheduling is within the rules, sparking a heated debate.

Liga President Responds to Criticism

Liga President Reinaldo Teixeira addressed FC Porto President André Villas-Boas's criticism, stating he treats FC Porto with the same 'care' as all clubs. Villas-Boas had labelled Teixeira's work as 'innocuous and empty' regarding the re-scheduling. Teixeira promised a full response after the League's General Assembly.

Taça da Liga Improvements

Meanwhile, the LPFP aims to enhance the Taça da Liga, with the 'final four' set to be held in Leiria in early January 2026. Teixeira emphasized the league's commitment to improving the competition's quality.

  • Tickets still available in Arouca.
