Heartbreak for New Zealand cricket fans! All-rounder Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out of the highly anticipated three-match T20I series against Australia after suffering a nasty facial injury during a training session. The incident occurred on Tuesday (September 30th) when Ravindra collided with a boundary hoarding while attempting a catch. Ouch!

The Kiwi camp confirmed the news, stating that Ravindra sustained a major laceration to his upper lip and nose area, requiring specialist stitching. Head coach Rob Walters emphasized that Ravindra's health and wellbeing are the top priority, and the decision to send him home for recovery was also made with the upcoming England series in mind.

"We're all really disappointed for Rachin to be forced to miss the series," Walters said. "Rachin is obviously an important player for us, but his health and wellbeing is our top priority."

But there's good news too! Veteran all-rounder James Neesham has been called up as Ravindra's replacement. "We're lucky to be able to call on Jimmy who brings all his experience and all-round capabilities," Walter said.

This isn't the first time Ravindra has suffered a facial injury this year. Earlier in 2025, he was struck on the forehead during a tri-series game against South Africa in Lahore, forcing him to miss the rest of the tri-series and New Zealand's opening Champions Trophy match.

The home series against Australia kicks off on October 1st at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, with the subsequent matches scheduled for October 3rd and 4th. Get well soon, Rachin! We'll be cheering you on from the sidelines.
