Petrol Price Jikeleza: Slight Increase, But Diesel Gets a Price Cut!

Petrol Price Jikeleza: Slight Increase, But Diesel Gets a Price Cut!

Good news, South Africa! While petrol prices are seeing a slight nudge upwards for October, diesel users are in for a treat! Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, announced the latest fuel price adjustments, effective from midnight.

Here's the Breakdown:

  • Petrol 93 Unleaded: Up by 1c/litre - New price: R21.48
  • Petrol 95 Unleaded: Up by 8c/litre - New price: R21.63
  • Diesel (0.05% Sulphur): Down by 10c/litre - New price: R19.34
  • Diesel (0.005% Sulphur): Down by 8c/litre - New price: R19.39
  • Illuminating Paraffin: Down by 11c/litre

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources attributes these changes to fluctuations in international fuel prices and the Rand's performance against the US dollar. The Rand strengthened slightly, moving from R17.73/$ to R17.49/$ during the review period.

Why the Petrol Increase?

Part of the petrol price increase includes a 6.1c/litre adjustment to accommodate wage increases for forecourt employees, following an agreement signed on August 23rd. So, a small portion goes towards supporting our hard-working petrol attendants!

So, there you have it! A mixed bag for South African motorists. Fill up wisely and drive safely!
