Ferndale's Foul Odour: Sewage Crisis Continues
In Ferndale, a stormwater sewer blockage at the corner of Hunter Street and Oak Avenue has been spewing foul-smelling water for eight long months. The continuous flow has caused significant damage to the road surface, creating dangerous potholes for motorists. Resident Mark Knocker describes the situation as a "health hazard" and laments the "unbearable" stench. Despite JW being aware of the problem since June, the issue remains unresolved, reportedly due to a customer connecting a sewer overflow pipe into the stormwater system. JW's spokesperson, Nombuso Shabalala, stated investigations were underway, but four months later, sewage still flows through the streets.
Lonehill's Leaking Nightmare: Years of Neglect
Lindile Mhlana, a resident of Lonehill, has been battling water leaks on his property for four years. He claims JW has repeatedly failed to address the issue, even closing logged calls without visiting the property. "They sent an SMS saying the matter is resolved, but no one has ever come to inspect the site," Mhlana stated. The constant moisture has damaged his boundary wall and parts of his house. Mhlana's attempts to escalate the matter have been met with silence. JW spokesperson Nolwazi Dlamini responded that if the leak is inside the property, it is the resident’s responsibility. However, Mhlana argues that he needs JW to confirm the source of the leak before he can take further action.
