Table Mountain National Park has issued a heatwave advisory, warning visitors to take necessary precautions as temperatures are expected to soar into the high 30s across the West Coast, the City of Cape Town, and the Cape Winelands. The advisory is in effect until Sunday, 9 November 2025.

SanParks is urging hikers to stay safe by:

  • Drinking plenty of water.
  • Wearing light, breathable clothing and a hat.
  • Planning walks for early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler.
  • Keeping phones charged.
  • Informing someone of your route and expected return time, and adjusting plans accordingly.

Cape Town Appoints First Chief Heat Officer in South Africa!

In response to increasingly extreme weather events, the City of Cape Town has appointed Albert Ferreira as its Chief Heat Officer – a first for South Africa! Ferreira, currently the manager for Resilience and Climate Change, will lead efforts to raise awareness about heat and extreme heat events, which are expected to become more frequent due to climate change. This proactive step highlights Cape Town's commitment to building resilience in the face of a changing climate. This is a crucial step in protecting the city's residents and visitors from the dangers of rising temperatures.
