Big news coming out of the FC Thun camp and the broader Swiss football scene! Let's dive into the latest developments.
Helios Sessolo Joins Yverdon Sport
After his contract with FC Thun wasn't extended, veteran attacker Helios Sessolo (32) has found a new home in the Challenge League. He's signed a two-year deal with Yverdon Sport, who were recently relegated from the Super League. Sessolo expressed his excitement, stating, "The project and the playing philosophy really appeal to me. I'm happy to be here, already know some of the players, and look forward to working with them. I'm proud to be part of the Yverdon Sport family."
Sessolo brings a wealth of experience, having previously played for Young Boys (YB), Lausanne-Sport, Schaffhausen, Kriens, and Thun. He's also a two-time Challenge League winner, most recently with Thun last season.
Visana Takes Over Stockhorn Arena
In a significant move for the club and the region, Visana Insurance Group has unanimously been approved as the new owner of the Stockhorn Arena, FC Thun's home stadium. The decision was made at the General Assembly of Genossenschaft Arena Thun (GNAT). The takeover price is reported to be one million Swiss Francs.
The agreement includes an annual contribution of 300,000 Swiss Francs until 2036, earmarked for youth and women's football development at FC Thun. Furthermore, the club will continue to use the stadium rent-free.
Christian Fröhlich, Chairman of the Board of GNAT, emphasized the importance of the decision, calling it "not only an economically important step but also a strong commitment to the future of FC Thun and the importance of sports infrastructure in our region."
This transfer ensures a sustainable model that combines sport, youth development, and regional attractiveness for Thun.
